IKE Smart Kiosks
Client | Ike Smart City LLC |
Completion Date | 2023 |
Location | Detroit, Michigan |
Harlan Electric was awarded a contract with IKE Smart City (IKE) to construct the foundations and electrical circuits of 30 interactive kiosk units in prominent locations throughout Detroit, Michigan.
Harlan Electric’s scope of work for this unique public project began with proofing the existing underground Detroit lighting circuits to see if the conduits had room for additional wire to power the kiosks and determine a clear path for new conductors. Then the crews would excavate each site, set up forms for the foundations, trench to the closest access point, pour the foundations, pull in conductors, install the kiosk, and restore the area.
These wayfinding kiosks stand eight-feet tall with foundations that extend four feet below ground. Once in operation, they advertise for the city and local businesses and feature local art, targeting both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The units also provide free Wi-Fi, emergency call features and cameras, and interactive city navigation with specialized functions to display homeless and other shelter locations, food, and mental healthcare facilities.
